AMD64 version installs fine on Intel Core 2 Duo Windows 7 64-bit machine

Mar 8, 2010 at 8:57 PM

I tried installing the IA 64 versions of: "Microsoft_Parsers" and "Microsoft_SQL" from the Downloads page. But these throw up an error: "The installation package is not supported by this processor type. Contact your product vendor."

However, surprisingly, AMD64 versions install fine on my Intel Core 2 Duo Windows 7 64-bit system! Can someone throw some light on what install types are applicable to which processors?

thanks,

Madhu Lakshmikanthan

Hi Madhu,

Thanks for providing us feedbacks. This issue is by design.

Intel Core 2 Duo is Intel 64, which is Intel's implementation of x86-64 (X64). IA64 refers to Itanium architecture, for Intel Itanium processors.
